Some of you are still possessed of the thoroughly old fashioned idea that songs with words demanding to be listened to are a bad thing. I suggest you purchase this album and get cured quick. Try not to resist. Melody Maker...Dando is at last emphatically his own man - and the results fall barely short of the miraculous. NME The Lemonheads formed in Boston in the late 80s and had their major label debut on Atlantic in 1990 with Lovey. It was 1992's IT S A SHAME ABOUT RAY, though, that proved to be their breakthrough success. Critical and fan acclaim surged for the album, which centered on lead singer/songwriter Evan Dando's melodic, left-of-center alt-rock artistry. His warm, resonant vocals and brilliant pop sensibilities often belied insurgent lyrics, a quality that runs throughout the title track a #5 BillboardĀ® modern rock chart hit and the album's other stand-outs, including My Drug Buddy, Allison s Starting To Happen, Confetti, and the band's hit, punk-skewed cover of Mrs. Robinson. On this new 2-disc, CD+DVD COLLECTOR'S EDITION, the original album plus ten bonus tracks comprise Disc 1. The DVD features 45 minutes of content including videos and commentary from Dando.

Customer Reviews: Average Rating:

Rating : - Not worth the extra price
I consider this one of my all time favorite pop albums. Every song is a gem and the songs have stood the test of time. It's an album that's been in, more or less, constant rotation in my disc player since I first bought it in the early nineties. So I was excited to discover that it was being re-released by Rhino in the hopes that they would produce a carefully superior sounding remastered version of this classic alt-rock album. Unfortunatley that's not the case. It sounds nearly identical to the original except they've compressed the sound a bit. If anything it sounds a little harsher than the orginal. The bonus songs are interesting but are 4-track demo quality in sound and performance so they become more of an annoyance in the end. The videos are your standard MTV videos that can be found on the web, if you're feeling nostalgic, and a few forgettable live performances. I highly recommend the album, but I suggest you save your money and get the standard issue disc instead.
