I wrote an earlier review explaining why I wasn't going to get a Kindle.

I got a Kindle.

It arrived today. It's going to take me a while to learn to use it, as it's far more complex than any previous ebook reader I have used, but I can already tell I'm going to enjoy it very much. I tried out a free subscription of a newspaper, and sure enough the newspaper was on my screen in about two minutes.

The number of formats directly supported by the device is outstanding. I expected to have to have about 4000 ebooks reformatted, but instead I'm going to be able to just put them straight into the Kindle.

Whenever I address writers' conferences, I begin by telling them what's going on with ebooks, because I fell in love with my first ebook reader two seconds after I got it out of the box. I have given excellent reviews to Rocket and to the eBookWise reader. We bought our REB on sale and couldn't return it, so we wound up throwing it away. The Sony we tried was in its box ready to be returned within two hours of its arrival.

I'm trying to give my Rocket away to a good friend who isn't sure she'll like ebooks. I'll keep the eBookWise reader because I have a good many encrypted books on it that I don't want to repurchase. But I expect that most of my future book purchases will be for the Kindle. And, of course, my publishing company, Live Oak House, will be publishing for Kindle--mysteries, fantasy, romances, important poetry, and whatever looks good to me as editor.

And somebody needs to tag Don Aslett and tell him about ebook readers as decluttering devices. I have literally rid myself of more than 3000 paper books since I started using ebooks. Now I have more books than ever, but they don't need a bookcase. They're invisible until I want to read them.
