Wow! What a great player. I just bought this with my tax refund, and I'm glad I did. I'm running it on my 50" 720p/1080i plasma, and it's crystal clear. No need for a 1080p. I'm not rich enough to spend the extra money for a 1080p. I had bought my Plasma on a clearance sale for $800, along with my clearance sale surround sound at a store closeout. Anyways, this player is great for surround sound, running it 7.1 on my pioneer elite sound system and Klipsch speaker set. Just to clarify on updating the firmware, I downloaded the 1.6 firmware from the website onto my computer, then burned it to a CD-R. I had problems the first time around because I did not finalize the CD-R after burning it. If you do not finalize the CD-R, the player will begin to read the disc but then eject it with a message saying LFVU. So finalize your CD-R when you burn the firmware to a CD-R. The 1.6 firmware improves the output level of Low Frequency Effects Channel and HDMI compatibility issues with some Plasma TVs.
